Why?
I'd been living with flat-pack furniture ever since university, and none of it ever felt personal. It did the job, but it was bland and made every corner of the flat feel temporary. Nothing quite fit, either. The shelf was 10cm short of the alcove, the desk didn't line up with the window, and the wardrobe left an awkward gap that just collected dust. What I wanted was bespoke wooden furniture that felt like home: warm, soft and calm, with rounded edges, natural grain and the faint scent of wood wax, instead of hard lines and laminate.
I'll admit it: I'm obsessed with plywood furniture. I love the layered edges, deliberately left exposed as part of the design. I love the pale warmth of birch, and how honest it is. There's no veneer pretending to be something it isn't. The pieces I kept saving online all had one thing in common: they looked like they belonged in their space. They fit into the room instead of fighting it. Pieces like that are expensive to commission, and they're never quite sized for your room. So I thought: how hard can it be to design it myself?
